“The redesigned wordmark is a respectful nod to both the heritage ’80s logo and Neville Brody’s ’90s graphic work for Salomon. Carefully crafted towards future-proof impact and maximum precision, the new identity is a workhorse that builds a base for all sub-brands such as Salomon Advanced and S/LAB for which I was honored to design new logos as well.”
Founded in Annecy in 1947, Salomon spent 75 years becoming one of the world’s leading outdoor brands, and in recent years, one of fashion’s most coveted sneaker labels. When the brand prepared its “Tomorrow is Yours” relaunch, it needed its first visual update in twelve years: a mark strong enough to carry skis, trail shoes, and Maison Margiela collaborations alike. My work with Salomon reaches back years before the rebrand, with earlier explorations for Salomon Advanced. So when the call came to redesign the logo itself, it was a full-circle moment.

The final logo came out of an intense four-week process in early 2021, in three phases. Phase one: after an extensive research period, I combined my findings with the in-house research from the Salomon team and started drawing. Over many iterations and explorations, I developed the final logo design. Phase two: based on my developed and selected design, Benedek and Ferrol took over for the last refinements of the typographic details. Phase three: I took over again and developed the S/LAB and Salomon Advanced logos, plus the lock-ups for all brands.

“Rihanna’s on-stage endorsement at her Super Bowl performance cemented Salomon’s growth story in becoming one of fashion’s most coveted sneaker brands.”

“Hugo came up with the best draft version of the brandmark, and then David and Ricardo turned it into a perfectly finalized logo,” Farcot said. “Then they created the ‘S’ monogram from this base, which Hugo used to create our new S/LAB logo and the Salomon Advanced signature.”

“Diving into its rich brand history and designing the new Salomon logo has been a tremendously inspiring, full-circle experience for me,” Hoppmann said. “Drawing, concepting, tinkering on details, and closely collaborating with Ric, David and the rest of the amazing team has been a fantastic ride. I am deeply grateful for having been given the opportunity to make my mark on the future of Salomon.”
